How did the #tiedtogether movement come about?
The #tiedtogether initiative came as a response to the silence from the fashion industry in the face of growing uncertainty and a dangerous narrative peddling division on both sides of the Atlantic. In an industry where visuals often speak louder than words and with the fashion industry embarking on a month-long circuit of shows, it felt like a good time to encourage our community to break their silence and to stand together, making a clear statement in support of solidarity, unity and inclusiveness.
Why a white bandana?
A white bandana is an affordable, simple accessory that is widely available and can be easily incorporated into any look, serving as a neutral and therefore clearly visible contrast to the many black and colourful clothing around.
Does #tiedtogether support any charities?
Yes, with this movement, BoF is raising funds for the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) and UNHCR (the UN's Refugee Agency), two charities that support causes in support of solidarity, unity and inclusiveness and the common bonds of humankind — regardless of race, sexuality, gender or religion. We encourage everyone taking part in #tiedtogether to donate a sum — however large or small — to the ACLU and UNHCR.
Our goal is to reach a total of 10,000 #tiedtogether posts on Instagram this Fashion Month. For each #tiedtogether post, our donors and benefactors will pledge $5 to the #tiedtogether campaign. It's this simple: The more you post, the more money we raise together.
Why is this not a political statement?
People can interpret and channel #tiedtogether however they feel comfortable. We want to include everybody rather than causing further division.
